Return-to-Work Plan
The return is negotiated before the first day, or renegotiated in week three by someone already exhausted.
What it is
The return that fails does so quietly, in week three, when the phased hours are still nominal and the workload is already whole. This plans the re-entry before the date: capacity stated without heroism, a phase agreed in writing rather than renegotiated under pressure, the disclosure boundary decided before anyone asks, and checkpoints where adjusting is expected. For anyone back after long illness, injury, parental leave, bereavement or a break.
What you receive
a return after a long absence planned so it survives the first month — the capacity read against what changed in the role, a phased return proposed in writing with its shape and its end date, the manager, team and stakeholder conversations with the disclosure boundary set, a prioritised catch-up, and the checkpoints that make adjustment routine instead of an admission of failure
